Vibrant Sound Bridge
A vibrant sound bridge is an implant system for adult patients with severe hearing loss who want to improve their hearing but cannot use hearing aids. This system is a middle ear implant that brings sound inside of the ear and mimics natural hearing. This surgical procedure has a single point of contact in the ear making it easier to preserve the ear structure for long term use. Most patients report a significant improvement in their ability to hear in comparision to traditional hearing aid devices, removing feedback, discomfort with wear, ear wax build-up, and other set-backs that are related to traditional hearing devices. Patients wear an external audio processor which picks up sound and converts it into electrical signals that are transmitted through the skin into the implant where the signals are delivered to the middle ear.
When is a Vibrant Sound Bridge Necessary?
The vibrant sound bridge is necessary for adult patients who have not found hearing improvement with regular hearing aid devices. This form of implantation is without any physically worn device. Instead, it is a digital device with a transmitter and internal receiver that mimics the natural hearing process.
Patients may consider the Vibrant Sound Bridge if they have the following conditions:
- Severe hearing loss
- Patients who are unable to wear conventional hearing aids
Preparing for Your Procedure
In most cases, the vibrant sound bridge is a same-day procedure where the patient undergoing general anesthesia in order for the implant to be attached to the middle ear structure. Upon the completion of the procedure around a month and a half later, the patient will be asked to return to the office to be fitted for an audio processor that connects magnetically to the back of the ear.
