 When is this Procedure Necessary?

During a microdiscectomy, the patient will be under general anesthetisa. The surgeon will begin by making an incision in the midline of the lower back. They will then lift the muscles from the vertebrae to access the affected area. They will then remove any disc fragments from the nerve root, relieving the pressure.

After surgery, patients should expect to limit physical activity for a few weeks. This will allow the back to heal properly and thoroughly. Your surgeon will likely send you home with medications to manage any pain and discomfort you may experience.
