What To Expect

Patients will be under general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. During the procedure, a flexible tube with a camera (cystoscope) is inserted into the urethra to visualize these structures. A contrast dye is then injected into the urinary tract to highlight any abnormalities on x-ray imaging. This helps identify any blockages, strictures, or abnormalities in the kidney or bladder. Following this, a small tissue sample of the prostate gland may be taken using a needle for further analysis. 

After undergoing a cystoscopy with pyelography procedure, patients can expect a relatively smooth recovery process. Typically, patients may experience some discomfort, such as a mild burning sensation during urination or blood in the urine, for a few days following the procedure. Drink plenty of water to help flush out any remaining dye used during the pyelography. Additionally, patients should avoid strenuous activities for at least 24 hours post-procedure and follow any specific instructions their healthcare provider provides.
