About 

Dr. Vanderveen is a Colorado native and graduate of Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, CO. She received her bachelor’s degree with honors from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA; medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL; and surgical residency training at UC-Davis in Sacramento, CA.

Her residency included a Master's Degree in Clinical Research (MAS) and involvement in cancer research and education and she received her Board Certification in General Surgery.

She completed a fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She focuses on minimally invasive techniques and advanced imaging, including new “scarless” transoral techniques for medical and surgical aspects of endocrine diseases.

Dr. Vanderveen specializes in surgery for diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.

Vanderveen is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the American Thyroid Association. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

With her expertise as a highly desired speaker on the local and national stage, she is also available for consultations in medical practice development and biomedical device research and design.

Dr. Vanderveen initially practiced in Albuquerque, NM, where she helped the Presbyterian Medical Group build one of the country’s first community thyroid and endocrine cancer programs. She returned to Denver in 2011 to be closer to her family. (You may recognize her brother-in-law, Chris Vanderveen, from his Emmy Award-winning reporting on 9News.)

In addition to serving on Rose's Surgical Quality Committee, Dr. Vanderveen was Vice-Chairman of Surgery and Medical Director of its Rose Thyroid and Parathyroid Center - a first-of-its-kind multidisciplinary endocrine center.

The main joy in Dr. Vanderveen's life is spending time with her children and her husband (also a physician and a Denver native). During surgery, she is known for wearing cowboy boots. She is a proud part of the Smith Medical Direct Specialty Care team.
